4,000 sailors from 60 different nations – 3.5 million visitors from all over the world and round about 2,000 music gigs, parties and cultural activities besides the races – That’s the Kieler Woche 2016 in a nutshell!
Since the end of the 19th century this sailing regatta takes place annually and ranks among the most important sport events in the world. Moreover it is known as the largest folk festival in northern germany which takes place on June 18 to 26. Despite the enormous size of the event and numerous free open-air concerts, the sailing competition takes the center stage throughout the Kieler Woche.
This year’s event organizers include the Kieler Yacht Club, the North German Regatta Club, the Sailing Club Wannsee and the Hamburg Sailing Club.
The sailing races will take place in Olympia center Schilksee, since this is the sporting center of the Schleswig-Holstein state capital Kiel. In addition to that, a number of smaller sports activities will entertain the KiWo visitors along the harbor front of the Kiel Fjord.
For the first time Gaastra is official sponsor and partner of the world’s most important sailing event. At the Kiel harbor line Gaastra is represented by a 100 sq. m stand, professional sailing gear from Gaastra Pro can be found at the Olympic Park. Our third stand will be a smaller pop-up store in front of Hotel Kieler Yacht Club. And last but not least we have a stand at the Vasahalle with special promotions.
