Today, we would like to introduce you to the renowned American photographer Michael Kahn. His fine black and white sailing photographs reflect Kahn’s passion for the sea and classic sailing yachts as the historic J-Class yachts. The nautical photographer grew up, and still lives, in the Chester County of Southern Pennsylvania and has always loved the beauties of nature, especially the water. At the age of thirteen, his mother gave him a 35mm film camera and he started to discover photography. Today, Michael Kahn’s beautiful warm toned black and white seascape images and sailing photographs, captured with his 1950’s camera and collected on traditional black and white film, are exhibited in international art galleries and museums and have been published in numerous magazines and newspapers such as National Geographic, Classic Boat, Coastal Living, Ocean Magazine, Sailing World, The New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal.
Each photograph is handmade and traditionally printed by Michael Kahn, in editions of fifty or fewer guaranteeing to be a piece of collector value. His prints are also seen in set designs for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer films, and his still shots appear in the film Message in a Bottle, and James Bond’s Die Another Day. In 2004, Kahn released a coffee-table book titled The Spirit of Sailing, which features over sixty of his stunning sepia toned sailing photographs of boats and seascapes, capturing the beauty of several classic yachts with his distinctive sense of form, vision, and composition. Within the book, photographs of the J-Class yachts Endeavour, Velsheda and Shamrock V are featured, captured off the Isle of Wight at the America’s Cup jubilee in 2001 and off Antigua during the Antigua Classics Regatta.
