The American flagged and Gaastra Pro sponsored crew skippered by America’s Cup winner Ed Baird with Terry Hutchinson as tactician yesterday won the Zenith Royal Cup Marina Ibiza, the fourth and final circuit-event of the 2014 Barclays 52 Super Series. Following their win at the Audi TP52 World Championship off Porto Cervo in June and their crowning at Palma’s Copa del Rey Mapfre Regatta in August, the unstoppable TP52 team by owner Doug DeVos now has claimed the overall points at their third regatta win out of four cementing their position as the most successful team in the history of the TP52 class. MedCup winners in 2008 and 2011, TP52 World Champions in 2010 and now after 2013 for the second consecutive time 52 Super Series Champions. Wow!
52 Super Series reaching new heights in 2015
Up to nine new TP52s, a fleet around 12 to 15 boats strong and 3 new venues – world’s leading Monohull Circuit is setting a course for growth in the upcoming 2015 season. Kicking off at the beginning of the year with the US 52 Super Series, the 5-month long Europe-sailing-circuit at the 2015 Barclays 52 Super Series will compass 5 regattas running from May to September. The curtain-raising regatta will take place from 18 to 23 May in Valencia as one of the new venues and for the grand final in September, the fleet will head for Cascais, Portugal – for the first time on Atlantic waters!
