The Gaastra PalmaVela 2013 regatta off Majorca will be held in the bay of Palma from the 1st to the 5th of May heading to its 10th edition and setting sail with Gaastra as the new sponsor this year! Gaastra has been involved at the last four editions of PalmaVela as the official partner and nautical clothing supplier. The new sponsorship reflects the good relationship between the organising Real Club Náutico de Palma (RCNP) and the nautical sportswear brand Gaastra, which will be PalmaVela’s sponsor for the next 5 years giving name to the Majorcan sailing regatta. Gaastra PalmaVela 2013 is a qualifying event for the Maxi boats competing for the IMA Rolex International Championship 2013, is included in the official Wally Class Circuit 2013 (with the debut of two brand new units of “Wally Cento”) and the Vintage and Classic Yachts Spanish Championship, and part of the North Mediterranean Championship for the ORC Cruisers as well as being the first event of the 2013 racing calendar for the Soto 40 class.
126 entries are currently recorded (effective April 12) in the Gaastra PalmaVela 2013 Pre-Entry List. Competing classes/divisions will be: Wally, Maxi Racer/Cruiser, Mini Maxi – part of the line-up will be Swedish Niklas Zennström’s TP52 Ran Racing Team, Sir Peter Ogden’s Jethou (GBR) and Hap Fauth’s Bella Mente Racing Yacht (USA), the Soto 40 class, IRC, ORC, Vintage and Classic boats as the Moonbeam IV and Marigan sailing yacht, historic Lateen rigged boats, one design classes Flying Fifteen, J80 and Dragon as well as disabled sailing. The PalmaVela regatta was firstly held in 2004 with the aim to bring sailing closer to the public in general and will celebrate now its 10th edition with Gaastra being the new sponsor. The prestigious Real Club Náutico de Palma founded in 1948 celebrates a special jubilee this year as well: Its 65 year club jubilee!
