The countdown to the first-ever King’s Day in the Netherlands has started: With the abdication of Queen Beatrix last year on April 30 after 33 years on the throne, King Willem-Alexander has become head of state of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Continuing in the tradition of (Queen) Beatrix, the Royal Family will be visiting two communities: To the inaugural edition of Kingsday, these will be De Rijp before midday and then Amstelveen with the Royal family arriving around 12:00 hrs in the Stadshart, the modern centre of Amstelveen, where Kingsday festivities will take place.
